Finding Your Way – with help

We all need to find our way through this minefield.  We often only find out what we need to know when it is too late.  It’s that whole saga of we don’t know what we don’t know.

As our children become young people and approach adulthood, the whole system changes.  We all know the EHC Plans were supposed to the answer to all of that but in reality, it is still very much three different systems and as for working together, well if the practitioners struggle with working with other practitioners, what hope do we have for them working together with families.

So what can you do?

  • Get informed.
  • The variety of housing options for our young people is a real maze.  New terminology to learn, new funding to look at, new departments and companies to deal with.
  • Employing great PAs is another real minefield.  How do you know if your PA is a good match?
  • What can you do when your young person realises they have a right to have a voice, choice and control.
  • How can providers and families genuinely work together?
  • What about the Mental Capacity Act (MCA)?  Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)?  What does they actually mean in reality?
  • How can you promote positive coping skills and reduce challenging behaviour?
  • How do you, as a family, keep bouncing back to face the next chapter together?

All of these subjects are covered in our one day conference – Finding Your Way. on Saturday 30 January 2016.
