Family Rights: A Movement for Change

On 1 July, we hosted a workshop on Family Rights, Citizenship and Mental Capacity Act; one of our projects here at Bringing Us Together.

This was day 104 of the 107 day Justice for LB campaign.  We were very fortunate to have Dr Simon Duffy (Centre for Welfare Reform) and Pippa Murray (IBK Initiatives) helping to facilitate the day for us.

We are currently putting together a PDF download sharing the learning and views from the day.  We are also hoping to run more of these workshops around the country.  If you want to be kept up to date with future events or publications, subscribe to our blog.

As we were organising the day, we started to think of it as a Mastermind Group – People who Walk the Walk (instead of talking a good talk).  The aim of the Mastermind Groups is to bring together families and practitioners to work cohesively towards a shared goal.  If you want to express an interest in being part of our Mastermind Groups, get in touch.

What did those attending the day think about it?

Meeting lots of new people, Inspiring Stories, We all talk the same language

The honesty amongst those attending,  Lifting my head after keeping it down for so long

This has helped me an enormous amount – I feel invigorated

It was a perfect day – very person centred towards those attending

All those who had organised the day and the thought that had gone into it was tremendous. Well done.

Being able to be part of a group of similarly concerned parents (and others) who are keen to make a difference

More positive now about achieving better outcomes,

Opportunity to talk to other parents actively involved in change

Really appreciated the day and the work in advance to make it so worthwhile

I feel refreshed, Having the chance to speak to other family members – get ideas, support, share experience

Feeling stronger, more informed, fired up! Thank you VERY much

Meeting new parents and people. Listening to more stories. Given time to listen

Given me food for thought, Meeting people on the same road as me

Made me realise how different and extreme my circumstances are

Networking with other families, hearing storiesFeel more positive about where to get help, information in the future

Being with people who talk the same language “my tribe“, Feel I have found some more energy to focus once again on some difficult issues

We are taking expressions of interest for our Mastermind Groups until the end of July.  We will then be collating these over the summer with the hope of workshops and virtual meetings from September.  It’s not too late to get involved.
